why doesnt my ipad delete emails that have been deleted on myiphone app

why arent the same emails that are deleted on mail app on my phone deleted on my ipap mail app?

iPad Air, iPadOS 14

One reason would be if the email server is a "POP" (Post Office Protocol) server rather than an "IMAP" (Internet Mail Access Protocol) server, or if the server is capable of both but at least one of your devices is connecting by POP instead of IMAP.

Thank you so much! I thought that was it. I think it is the second choice. It took so long for my HR to connect me. I think she did IMAP ON ONE and POP ON THE OTHER.

when I try to fix it, it says cannot connect through SSL WHEN I tried to delete and reinstall.
