Then you did not do it correctly. It ALWAYS works if done correctly.

• Press and quickly release VOLUME UP
• Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN
• Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds)

The operative word here is QUICKLY

I cleaned it and am very careful of water damage, I don't drop my phone either. I've let it charge and ''die'' a few times but it doesn't work.

When does it start a countdown? When you press and release which button?

And if you did everything in the link what did Apple support say when you contacted them about your issue?
