You don't.
The warranty is one year from the date of original sale by Apple or an authorized retailer.
AppleCare+ must be purchased within 60 days of buying the phone and extends the warranty to a total of 2 years from the date of original sale.

I don't know how you can solve and expired coverage issue. Expire means just that, the coverage has expired and will no longer pay for your repairs. If that is not what you mean, please explain more clearly.
