got a new iphone 11 and need to transfer over from my old phone.

my old iphone is broken and i need to back up contacts/text/photos to my new phone.

If the old phone is broken and you did not backup before it was broken, you cannot back it up now. The only thing you can do is restore your last backup of the old phone to the new one. If you contacts were in iCloud, you can turn them on for the new phone when you log into iCloud.

How is this "Broken"?

What exactly is occurring here? In what way is it "broken"? If you were to "unbreak" it, then it might be recoverable. So, either get a new screen, or troubleshooting the power. If it is not powering up, refer to the following:
