when i create an iphone contact - it merges itself into outlook, sometimes loses any updated information that i've entered and then becomes an uneditable outlook contact. i'd prefer to keep my outlook work contacts that i use on my laptop and my iphone friends contact lists separted. but the phone keeps merging them. any advice.?

We'd be glad to see if we can help you separate your contacts from your third-party mail account. We see that whenever you create a new contact on your iPhone, they get stored within this mail account. To prevent this, we'd recommend changing the default account for where new contacts are stored from your Settings app > Contacts > Default Account. You'll want to choose iCloud or if you have another mail account available that you'd like to use.
In addition, if you choose to store them in iCloud, you may also want to consider attempting to import your previous contacts from your other mail account into iCloud. You can learn how to do this from Import a contact on iCloud.com.
