Had you attempted to use the above instructions? There shouldn't have been problems.

At what point was there an issue with using them? Maybe if the situation were told, an
answer could be explained. There are alternative install methods covered there too.
[By using macOS Recovery from the above reinstall page instructions, that could put
back whatever was on the drive. Unless Mac no longer has the Recovery partition.]
Another approach may be to Erase the drive (if you'd already had suitable backups)
and try to either re-install what had been there. Or, if the Mac could upgrade to later
macOS, try a stable version (if available) and download that version's Installer, here.
