Drag the Apple TV Application on the Dock to an empty space on the Desktop and puff - it is *&^ gone. The Application itself remains in the Application folder. Also, as the application is baked right into the OS - it can not be removed / deleted.

Right-click it and uncheck "Keep in Dock".

Drag the icon to the Trash and the icon, which is an alias, will be removed.
