Drivers for my Samsung T& SSD necessary to work with MacBook Pro

Are you referring to an external drive? If so, they do not need "drivers". All they need is to be formatted properly which can be done in Disk Utility - depends if you just want to use them with Mac OS or also Windows.

It doesn't need any drivers. It's plug and play. If you need to reformat the drive you can do it with Disk Utility. There is no need to use any Samsung software at all.

External drives work best with Macs without any (mostly useless) software installed. You can encrypt the drive without needing any software. And, if this is to be your Time Machine disk, you don't want anything on there that may be erased by Time Machine.

So, my recommendation is not to install their software, but it is your decision.

you shouldn't need to use samsung's software. just go to your Disk Utility (found in Applications > Utilities) and erase and format the drive APFS with GUID Partition Map

no, when you click erase, you will get a popup window where you can choose a format and partition scheme. then the erase and format operation will proceed. than once it's done, the drive should be working as expected. and if you want, you can then move that 8GB (and any other data that you want) back to the external drive.

ok, so yes, in that situation you need samsung's software to use that feature.

if you have room for that 8GB on your internal drive, move that data to it, then you can proceed with the erase and re-format

yes babowa, the OP does appear to understand that, but wants to use the fingerprint unlock on the external drive. and for that, they do need the samsung software. but you bring up a valid point that i didn't think of including. that of encrypting the drive without the need for samsung's software. thanks.

of course it could have to do with what babowa tried to explain in an earlier post.

i assumed the drive was empty. if it is, choosing erase will allow you to format the drive APFS, which will only work on macs. if there is any data on the disk, then yes it would be erased. if that's the case, you would need to move the data to a different location before re-formatting, or leave it formatted ExFAT to save the data. and if you need to share it between a mac and a windows machine, you can leave it as ExFAT.
