Iphone 12 pro shows but immediately dissapears when connecting to itunes

I'm trying to back up my iphone 12 pro to itunes for the first time since getting my 12pro.

Also transfer photo's to the photo's app.

On the first attempt of connecting to itunes, it asked me to update the mac software, which I did, and then it asked me to trust the device, which I did. The phone then appeared for a split second on itunes before disappearing. This now happens every time I try to connect the phone.

If I try to transfer photos into the photo's App the app connects to the phone, shows the images but then when I try to import I get the error message: com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912.

I have the same issue with image capture.

I've tried multiple cables, updating and restarting both devices, updating software and using the mobile updater.

My iphone does show as being connected in the USB properties.

My Mac is a Mid 2010 running OS Sierra 10.12.6.
