"stop watching on your other device" error playing a movie

I ran into the "stop watching on your other device" error when I tried to resume playing a movie on my AppleTV device.

The movie was rented from AppleTV/iTunes.

I had been playing the movie on an iPad. Even though I didn’t download the movie to the iPad and had quit the Apple TV app on the iPad and later even quit the iPad and restarted, I kept getting the error on my AppleTV.

The fix was to open the AppleTV app on the iPad and start playing some other movie. I then shut that down and, presto chango, the original movie was now available to play on my AppleTV device.

In case if the above doesn’t help, it didn’t for me.

I went on the “Movie ITunes” on my Apple TV, found the movie I rented on Apple TV, pressed play, then pressed “play from the beginning” and it worked.

provided Apple TV app is closed on the iPad.

Go to whatever main device you use, mine was my phone, go to your account and there should be a button that says Clear Play History. It doesn't delete anything just basically clears watch history and then the issue will be resolved!!

when that happened to us, nothing worked. So i filed for a refund. And later on, I rented it again.

Same problem here. I logged out of all devices and i keep getting the same error message. I am now unable to watch my FAST N FURIOUS 9!! Any other suggestions?!
