First, please confirm that you do have a good internet connection. You say it does not seem to be working. In order to properly evaluate, we need to know specifics. What exactly does or does not happen. Have you confirmed that the computer is actually on? Maybe the fall damaged something and it isn't powering up. Does your screen show anything? If so what?

This means that your Mac is unable to find a working operating system. Did you do something to erase it? If not , then try restarting in the Recovery Mode. Press the Command + R keys at startup. Then run Disk Utility to see if it can fix the problem. If that fails, then the OS will likely have to be reinstalled.
I will assume that your attempt to update the OS resulted in the data being corrupted during the download. That sometimes happens. Normally, though, the file will then not install. The next step is to restart the computer in the Internet Recovery Mode and press the Command + Option + R keys at startup.

The next step is to restart the computer in the Internet Recovery Mode and press the Command + Option + R keys at startup. This will install the original operating system your computer came with. Once that's done, you may update or upgrade to whatever newer version you were installing. I recommend that when you do the download(s) you only use a wired Ethernet connection. Not Wi-Fi. it's much slower and can often cause these problems. Hope that works for you.
Hi! I’ve tried with no success :(
my cat knocked my computer off my desk when it was downloading the update and everything just stopped!
the laptop didn’t call far or even that hard but it did stop the update. So I turned it off and back on.
what steps do I try now when Command + Option + R does not seem to be working.
thank you
