Apple credit card not recognizing zip code
My sons Apple Card that is tied to my family sharing Apple Card will not work at gas stations that require a zip code

That's odd. I'd try the following -- I'm not set up with family share so some options may not be available. On your son's phone, see if he can view card details by opening Wallet, selecting Apple Card and then selecting the three dots to get info. Can you verify that there is a zip code attached?
Otherwise, I'd use that same screen (on either his or your device) to message customer service.
