Older iPad - cannot add email account

I'm trying to set up my old iPad 2 for a relative to use for FaceTime, but I'm unable to set up her email address (which is an outlook.com address) on the iPad. I'm never given the opportunity to enter the credentials, and the account is displayed with a question-mark in the account list. This happens no matter how many times I delete and re-enter it. It goes like this:

  1. Select "Add Account"
  2. Select "Outlook.com" from the list
  3. A new screen pops up, and then disappears, and a dialog indicates "Unable to verify account information"
  4. A dialog says "Enter the password for the Outlook account "(null)"

I can't find a way around this--and no time am I offered the option to enter the actual account info. Running the latest compatible iOS version--10.3.3

Thanks for any assistance!

Sorry to piggyback your query Poiks2 but I was searching for an answer to this very problem as I have exactly the same issue with outlook email on iOS 10.3.3. I deleted my email account and tried to set it up again, outlook doesn't work, all the other emails do though (yahoo etc) so I guess outlook is no longer supported on this old system.

Thanks for commenting. I'm actually glad to know it's not just me, but at the same time now I need to come up with another solution, and I probably won't have time to do so before the iPad gets on a plane for India, on it's way to my tech-challenged mother-in-law.
