Heat and Processor usage issues

Hey guys, I powered my MBP up last night, fired up Mail and used Safari for some web browsing.

I noticed that the fans were hitting 6000 RPM and the temp was nearing 100 (actually reached 107) degrees celsius. I was only using it for the best part of 1 hour and wasn't doing anything intensive.

I used 'Activity Monitor' to check out CPU usage, its reads 50% in use despite the fact that I'm not doing anything.

--At sustained 6200 RPM the temp is bouncing between high 70s, low 80s, is this a problem?

--Whats the CPU doing?

Below is screenshot of the Activity Monitor and SMC-Fan control in use.
