Is Big Sur 11.4 safe to upgrade to?

Hello guys,

I have a mid-2014 macbook pro, running macOS Catalina latest. I wanted to upgrade to Big Sur 11.4, but I remember last year when a lot of MBPs 2013/2014 went broken after the update. They say the IO board or something get corrupted but not sure.

My question is, has anyone tried updating from Catalina (not using any beta Big Sur) on a mid-2014 MBP to 11.4 Big Sur? Big Sur is very nice and I want to update but I'm in no position to repair my macbook, nor buy a new one. (although i might have to ofc but not atm.) Please advise: Is it completely safe to update to Big Sur 11.4 on my MBP mid-2014?

Thanks,

MacOSX

Do I have a Rescue Plan In-Place. This comprises having 3 Backups using 2 methods and 1 Off Site incase of Theft, Loss or Natural Disasters. A Time Machine Backup  is very useful and can be used to Revert to Previous Working macOS. For addition purposes - two Clones each to separate external drives. This is insurance incase things goes sideways. At least one Clone and / or Time Machine Backup should be Off - Site

Any Antivirus Software is not worth its' salt and there are no Virus that replicate on the macOS. Further, IMHO - any such software is going to interfere with the Download process Even if it is deactivated. As long as it is one the computer it will cuuse havoc and other things I can not say on these Forums.

Suggest removing it as per the Developers Specific Instructions before attempting the upgrade.
