iPhone 5S Inexplicable Broken Camera

After a year of owning a new 5s iPhone, the camera has inexplicably stopped working and shows a black screen.

I have troubleshot by turning it off and on and even factory resetting it. For a moment the camera worked after factory resetting it but then it froze and went to black again.

What can I do? Buy a new phone solely for a camera?

You could not have purchased a new iPhone 5s in the past year. They have not been available for some time. However, you can try the troubleshooting steps for the camera here, If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support but if that does not help, the only alternative is to contact Apple Support for service. They could explain your options.
