Charge directly from a computer or wall outlet. Other USB ports (including unpowered USB hubs) may not give enough ‘juice’ for charging. Charge your Siri Remote - Apple Support
If it doesn’t hold its charge anymore, then the battery may need ‘servicing’. I put that in quotes, as it is actually an exchange of the whole remote. If still under warranty, then it may be free of charge. If the warranty has expired, then there is a service fee of about 50% of the new price. Contact Apple for an appointment or mail-in service.

For optimal battery life, keep the charge between 20% and 80% of capacity. Try not to deplete the battery. Use official/approved cables and chargers, and don’t use worn-out/party broken charging cables.
