I really can’t accept the proximity sensor in WhatsApp!! I can understand it function during calls; But…. It also happened when I was in the WhatsApp page text conversations only!!! It keep swiping off the screen when my hand closer to the sensor, it’s really irritating! My WhatsApp screen keep black out when I was typing half-way! Please anyone can help!?

Is this occurring within any other apps or use cases, such as while on regular phone calls?
Do you have a case or screen protector installed that could be interfering with the sensor? Try removing any accessories and test the behavior again.
It is also a good practice to ensure you are using the most current version of iOS software as well as the latest version of WhatsApp. Be sure to check for updates to both.

Same issue on Iphone 12, iOS 14.7.1.
After a voice call on Whapp it gets bugged, while in conversation window, if you put the finger on proximity sensor it turns off display. Sometimes it doesn't even turns on for a minute. Only reboot helps untill next voice or video call. Really annoying. Please update this.
Here is solution, go to settings, general and than reset. In the reset option choose reset all setting. This will help. It resolved the same issue I had with iP12…
If you think WhatsApp is misbehaving after recent iOS update then contact Facebook/WhatsApp and remind them it is their responsibility to make sure apps work with latest iOS, not the other way round.
I too have the same issue in iphone 12 pro with latest software.. its not about screen protector and all.. its a bug in whatsapp or ios.. please fix it.. its very irritating
