Additionally, unplug the power cable from the back of the iMac for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in and try the Power button again. If that lets you boot up the iMac it's an indication of a failing power supply.
Gosh, that reminds me of my IIcx almost 30 years ago. It The monitor power cable plugged into the computer which then plugged into the mains supply. One day it wouldn't start. We disconnected the display power cable from the computer and plugged the display into the mains for a minute or so. We then attached it all again and this time the computer booted up with no issue. We were 'jump starting' the computer using the display capacitors and/or the tube itself. Eventually I scrounged a power source from another Mac (those were the days when you could actually do things with Macs) and it continued to work for another 5 years.
Not going to be the same with modern LED but brought back a nice memory.
