How do I remove or turn off the silent mode on this phone?'

Depends on how it was activated.


If you activated the switch on the side of the iPhone, and then move it in the opposite direction.


If you used the Do Not Disturb Feature, then turn it off in Settings->Do Not Disturb.


If you used the Volume buttons to turn down the volume or used the Volume slider in control center then use the Volume buttons to put the volume back up.
