MacBook Pro upgrade query

I currently have a 2013 early MacBook Pro Retina 15" running Catalina 10.15.7 which I backup to an external drive using TimeMachine. As this is the last software upgrade available, I think I'll have to upgrade my machine to a newer MacBook Pro Retina.

How do I restore my files / programmes etc from the TimeMachine back-up to a new MacBook Pro running, I assume, Big Sur without overwriting the operating systems etc...?

Any advice appreciated.
