Earlier, you mentioned there were no notifications showing. Go you go to Settings > Notifications and check the apps listed one by one? Look for ones that have an alert sound but are not set up to display a banner or badge. This could be a notification like that. Let us know if you see anything.

When this happens, is anything specific open on your iPhone? Such as are you in a specific application or feature. Also, how often does this happen? Is it several times a day or only intermittently?
