NVME SSD fails to format
I have a 1TB Samsung NVME SSD that I’m trying to install in 7,1 Mac Pro via PCI-E Adapter. Every time I try to format it in Disk Utility it fails and then no longer shows up. I have to restart to get it to show again. I’ve tried APFS, Jounaled, Exfat and no luck. Tried once with Fat32 and it worked, but when I tried to test a file transfer, it was painfully slow, then eventually umounted itself and disappeared from Disk Utility again. The drive works fine. Putting it in a PC I can format it and it shows solid stability and speed. Formatting it in the PC and then bringing it over to the Mac also works, but the performance is super brutal and it unmounts after a couple mins of testing. I’ve tried a couple different adapters.
My PCI slots are maxed out. Thought it may be a power issue, but my current setup has a dual SATA SSD raid card (that I’m trying to replace with the NVME drive in question) performing fine in the same slot. Even tried pulling my afterburner out as well to lower the power draw, but no luck.
Any ideas where to test next would be greatly appreciated.
