How much storage do you need to have open for a backup, I have 5G in total and I have only 3.6 open and when I try to do the backup it says that I don’t have enough storage

The amount of storage you need in iCloud is based on the amount of storage space the data on your device is taking up. For example, if your iPhone has 40GB worth of data on it, it would be best to upgrade to the 50GB plan in order to ensure that the data gets backed up. You cannot backup to iCloud without enough space available.

You can check the storage space on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
