How to check/update Powerbeats?

But the article doesn’t tell you:

• How to find the firmware version
• How to see if your version is old or new
• How to update

Why do I want to check the firmware?

• A couple of times a month the Powerbeats won’t turn on (it’s almost always fully charged)
• A couple of times a month they won’t pair or switch between devices
• A couple of times a month they won’t even reset

I use the Powerbeats about 4 times a month so basically, they don’t work about half the time - it’s truly mind-numbing sorry.

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. BTW if the forums offered a beats topic I would’ve posted there.
