How long is “so long”?

The rate at which your iPad will charge is principally determined by your iPad model - and the power output of the Power Adapter.

With few exceptions, an iPad requires a USB Power Adapter to be rated at 12W or greater to reliably charge. If you are attempting to charge an iPad with a 5W iPhone Power Adapter, if the iPad charges at all, a full charge will take a considerable period of time.

Some models of iPad and all models of iPad Pro support USB PD (Power Delivery) Fast Charging. These models are usually supplied with an 18W/20W Power Adapter - that will charge an iPad very rapidly to 80% of maximum charge.

For much newer, larger screen iPad models, without a Home button, try the new hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020/2021 iPad Pros and the 2020 iPad Air 4 models.

1. Press and release the volume up button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume down button.

3. Then, press and hold the single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Best of Luck to You!
