iPhone typing indicators on iMessage

Will apple ever allow you to turn off the typing indicators without turning off iMessage. It is so annoying that my friends and co workers can see that I am looking at their text message. It is a privacy issue for me. You can turn off when the message was read but not these ridiculous bubbles.
