Why does my Wifi stop working when I connect my macbook to my TV via HDMI?

I have a MacBook Air 2020. I purchased a HDMI cable and a USB-c to HDMI adapter so I could mirror my MacBook to my TV.

The connection works fine and I can now view my Macbook screen on my TV.

However, my wifi ceases to work when my MacBook is connected to my TV via HDMI. There is no issue with my wifi, I tried connecting to my mobile data via hotspot to see if that would work but unfortunately it doesn’t.

Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

Hello emma_12_,

We understand that your Mac isn't connecting to your Wi-Fi when HDMI is connected. Do you know if this HDMI is shielded? An unshielded or malfunctioning HDMI can cause wireless interference.

Additional troubleshooting, including wireless diagnostics, can be found here: If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi Give that test a try with HDMI connected and let us know what it determines.

Thanks!
