I purchased a new MacBook last week and have been using my fingerprint to log in. Now it is asking for a password that I don’t know. I don’t see an option to change or locate it either.
How do I open my new Mac?

If your finger print was not setup with your AppleID, and you have no data to recover, you can use

if your Mac uses the M1 chip.
If your Mac uses the Intel chip, command-R is recovery.
Otherwise bring the machine in for service.

Once that is fixed - really suggest reading the Fine Print at bottom of Log In Screen of computer. Tis paraphrases saying " to Activate Touch ID - you have to User your Password " This implies, the physical password is Required to Activate the subsequent usage to the Touch ID functions. Remember, this is a computer and the Touch ID is not the same as for the iPhone Touch ID. Even the iPhone from a Cold Boot ( OFF ) requires the Pin to be manually input
