iPhone 12 Pro Max overheating daily

I’ve tried everything but this phone continues to overheat every single day. This is very frustrating. I’ve had many iPhones and they have never overheated before. I am talking overheating to the point of burning my hand, leg, etc. even before the screen turns to the “emergency, phone must cool down” error… Is there any actual solution for this yet? Because turning off wifi, going into low battery mode, etc. aren’t long term sustainable solutions for such a serious problem for how expensive these phones are. I’m afraid to go to sleep and wake up to a fire instead of an alarm clock one day!
