apple tv airplay streaming code?

I tried to stream from the apple tv app onto my tv, apple airplay asked for a code. Where do I get this code from? The TV does not need a code for netflix and other apps. Only apple tv asks for this when trying to airplay from my iphone. This is not for the hardware, this is for streaming from the app.

The code should appear on your TV Screen.

You can go into your TV Settings, and find the Airplay Settings, and set it to only require the code the first time.

If its asking for a password instead of a code then its one that had to be set in the Airplay Settings on your TV at some point.

You can go back into Settings and see the password. The code is automatically generated by the Tv however.

I have a small Apple TV box connected to my stereo -- not my TV. In setting up iTunes for streaming music, I'm asked for a code. But where can I find this?

As mentioned above the code is dynamically generated by the Apple TV and displayed on the screen. You would need to connect the Apple TV to some kind of display to see the code.

There is no other way to see the code. As it's different each time it's required. You can set the Apple TV to only require it the first time a device attempts to Airplay to it however.

The Apple TV is designed to be used with a screen, so will require one for setup and other things from time to time.

I’ve followed the steps here. Using the Apple TV remote function on my iPhone 12 to connect to my black appleTV box which is hooked up to my non smart TV in my quarantine hotel, I am asked a passcode on my phone but the TV screen is not showing one.

When I connect at home, I just use my silver Apple TV remote and it works.

Could my Apple TV require a software update? It is quite old and it was a gift.

whst other solutions are there?

cheers,

The code required to connect the Apple TV remote app is a different one to the one for airplay.

If you don't have the physical remote for the Apple TV, you will bot be able to complete the remote app setup. You need to navigate to the Remote setup in the Apple TV Settings->General->Remote menu to get that particular code.

You cannot set up the remote App on a second or 3rd generation black Apple TV without the physical remote.
