Also another plus for LibreOffice as an alternative.

Where that may not work for you:

  1. If you use Outlook, there is no alternative for that in the free LibreOffice or OpenOffice suites.
  2. You collaborate with users of MS Office. The free suites cannot always open Office documents correctly. Mainly, it depends on how complex they are, or used features Libre/OpenOffice cannot parse.

So, if you require MS Office, it brings you back to the two choices VikingOSX noted. However, Office 2019 is essentially dead. It will not function beyond Big Sur. A new perpetual license version is slated for release in conjunction with macOS Monterey this fall.

If you do not want to use the subscription Office 365, then the cheapest option right now is to get that anyway as the single license version, and pay only monthly on it until the perpetual version, Office 2022 (or whatever name MS gives it) is released. Then purchase that and cancel 365.

On the other hand, Office 2022 is unlikely to support any OS older than Monterey (and maybe Big Sur). Since High Sierra is what you need a newer version for, then Office 2019 is you best choice. One time cost, and will continue to function through Big Sur.

That has been discontinued. You need to use Microsoft Office 2011. So, get it off of Amazon, rather than eBay (for a less change of being scammed). Note that you will not get any updates more than what are available from Microsoft.

Microsoft only supports Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 for Mac (presently) on macOS Mojave (10.14.6) or later. Save your money, Microsoft has disabled their license servers for unsupported versions of prior Office versions including Office 2011 for Mac. Even if you purchased a copy from Amazon or Ebay, if would fail as you have no means to license it on High Sierra.

Alternatively, you can download the free LibreOffice Suite (MS Office clone), or another MS Office compatible suite solution from SoftMaker.
