my usb-c lightning adapter suddenly stops working

I just bought a new monitor to use with my MacBook Pro 13 (M1, 2020). I used my lightning adapter for HDMI connection and it was working well until I came home tonight and heard a weird noise coming from my MacBook. I unplugged the HDMI, still has that kinda static noise. I tried plugging it to power thru the adapter and it does not work. The ports are perfectly working for charging, so I think the problem is on the adapter only.

What are you calling lightning?

Make sure you are using the right adapter for your computer:

The end that looks like:

Goes into any non-Magsafe MacBook. Magsafe are magnetic.

The end that looks like:

Goes into any older iPad or iPhone.

The lightning bolt icon below:

Is used with any thunderbolt device that uses Thunderbolt 3.0 or later.

Hubs that have a lightning label can take charge from a Macbook power adapter and convey it to the Mac in addition to convey charge to other connected device.

The port with the straight line and dashed lines underneath icon is the pass through power port. Connect the Mac's charger directly into that port, and make sure the display you have it hooked into has HDMI input selected.

Once you do, go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays and select Detect Displays. If it doesn't come up, something is either wrong with the AV adapter or the HDMI cable.
