Apple ID Sign in mails are not forwarded

So I noticed that today and couldn’t find a solution.

I’m using the Apple ID login on a couple of apps. With the privater layer. So hiding my real mail and using some generated one.

Which by itself works. Only that I noticed that I don’t receive any mails that get send to those private-layer mail addresses.

I tried to delete my account in one of those apps today where I use a private layer mail. And I don’t get the email forwarded.

I’m using Gmail. I already checked the settings for this feature. Everything is correct. I even tried to turn it off and on again.

Is this maybe a general problem related to Gmail?

It’s my understanding that ONLY the app developer / service can send to the “private relay” e-mail address associated w/ your Sign-In with Apple account.

Of course, I can’t find the source from over a year ago … however that’s been my own experience.

I received regular e-mails from the service via my app-registered “private relay” …

… but no e-mails from any other sources would be accepted into that address.

This is how I assume or understand it.

I think App developers need to actually “activate” that feature. It’s not like you have it always available.

And I think Apple is then using the domain or whatever the developer used to only grant this one access. So if they use another domain or Subdomain this could lead to such problems.

But ofc I’m not sure. It’s just the only logical thing that comes to my mind why this is not working.
