is there any app or way to schedule a restart or reboot of iphone 12?

I am a firm believer in rebooting now and then to clear things on computers and phones. I cannot understand the lack of any info or way to do this on iphone via software or regular schedule.

But it is the correct answer, forced restarts should only be used when your iPhone is frozen or has other issues. If you lose sync with your cell service provider a simple restart can sometimes fix that but there is no other need to regularly restart your iPhone and no app or shortcut to do so. There hasn’t been a need to do so on a computer for the last decade.

No, computers haven’t needed to be restarted for years. And the iPhone doesn’t use the same OS as computer’s. Apple Support actually recommends against doing a forced restart unless you are having a problem. Merely turning it off and back on accomplishes nothing.

The periodic rebooting came from the early days of Windows and was due to memory leaks among other things. But the need to do on PCs running Windows has pretty much evaporated. Unix based devices never had this need. The whole reboot thing as regular maintenance is long out of date.

There is no built in app to schedule restarts. You might be able to create one using the Shortcuts app. If you succeed please post how you did it. I’m pretty sure it’s possible to create a “shutdown” app, but once it’s shut down it requires pressing a button and entering a passcode to restart it, and that would not be possible.

And I agree that restarting periodically is good practice. While it’s called an iPhone, it’s really a very powerful computer that can also make phone calls, and like all computers it should be rebooted occasionally. Although, come to think of it, my Linux servers haven’t been rebooted in over a year. One of them was last rebooted 604 days ago.

If you read carefully I referred to both a restart and a forced restart. I know what a restart on a phone is and doing it regularly does absolutely nothing for the performance of your phone. Currently it does absolutely nothing for any computers that are out there, even Windows ones. In the very early period of Windows, and Windows Server there was a memory leak problem which meant it was necessary to periodically reboot the machines to clear it out but this hasn't been necessary since Windows 7 (and Windows NT). Where I was working the city installed Windows servers and yes they had a reboot schedule. I was running an isolated network using Novell Netware and they asked me what my reboot schedule was. At the time I checked the console and it had not been restarted in 16 months. And there was no performance degradation. Our Xenix network we ran years earlier never had to be rebooted for performance either.

If it makes you feel better mentally buy all means regularly restart your iPhone if it makes you feel better but it is not actually improving or doing anything other than restarting your iPhone (which does use a bit more battery). The regular restarts is now an old computer users tale caused by Microsoft. And no I am not wrong nor inaccurate. Basically you are saying that turning the phone off and back on just in general performs some maintenance task to improve the performance of your iPhone but it doesn't. There are instances where it can be beneficial but it is not regularly needed.

I know what a restart is and iphones don't have that function as a single entity. They have power down which probably can be shortcutted, and they have power up which cannot.

So the OP wants to automate a nonexistent process for a nonexistent reason.

Regular restarts are no more needed now than defragmentation.

Ever noticed that after a power down and power up cycle the identical apps are in the app switcher, including open documents?

Next you'll be saying it's good to close all apps at the end of the day.

Restarting isn't going to fix that. If you think there is spyware on your phone, restore it as new, not from your back up and put a passcode on it. Make sure that your Apple ID has two-factor authentication enabled.

It's not very easy to put spyware on an unjailbroken iOS device.

So you want an app that will erase your iPhone and re-install it on a regular basis? And if your iPhone is jailbroken you need to put it in DFU mode and then set it up as a new device. And by rebooting are you just referring to turning the iPhone off and back on or doing a forced restart? You may believe in it but the facts are it doesn’t accomplish anything doing this on a regular basis.
