Voice Control Keeps Popping Up with External Mic

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and using an external lap mic with the standard 3.5 jack connected to the Apple 3.5 to lightning connector. Everything has been working well for since I purchased my iPhone 12 Pro Max but over the past week, the voice control keeps randomly popping up and I'm unable to record my audio through the external mic. I have Siri and Voice Over turned off, made sure the lightning port is clear of debris, double checked the mic is in good shape, and also rebooted my phone several times but to no avail. Are there preferred external mic brands I should consider instead for iPhone or could I fix this issue?

This issue could be caused by a few sources, and it's important to test a few different scenarios to isolate this a bit further. For instance, we suggest testing the issue with another set of headphones. Also, if you have access to another adapter and iOS device, test the issue again with your current adapter and headphones with the other iOS device, and another adapter with your iPhone 12.
