Apple Music

So i recently just move out on my own, and got off of an family plan with my mom. I did the individual 9.99 a month and when I used my moms family plan when I played music it didn’t matter if I had wifi on it always plays. Now if I’m not using wifi I have to use my data to play my music and it’s very annoying as I had to use all my data this month for music when before I never had to I would always listen to it with out data or wifi. Wondering why its different now?

I don't believe anything has changed really. You have to have an Internet connection (either through cellular or WI-FI) to listen to streaming music. To listen to music without an Internet connection you need to download it to your device so you can listen to it offline. See the 'Download music that you've added to your music library' section in:

Add and download music from Apple Music - Apple Support

I suspect that before you were listening to the music with your mom's data plan (which might have been unlimited or she was paying the bill).
