Hi,

Knowing the exact printer model is often important in order to suggest a suitable solution. A Canon MP3522 appears to be difficult to find. Do you possibly mean a Canon PIXMA MG3522?

If it is an MG3522, AirPrint is mentioned in the specifications. Otherwise, please disregard the following.

However, only a Canon MG3520 is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support, so this should be checked (the last digit may or may not be of significance in this very case).

Check that the printer has the latest firmware.

If a printer is AirPrint-enabled, and if it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network (router) as the computer, it is not necessary to install printer drivers. Software from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality.

You could also test the AirPrint ability via an iPhone/iPad.

Hi rgcanoe,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you are not able to use your Canon printer with your Mac since upgrading to Big Sur.

First, we recommend trying the steps from Solve printing problems on Mac which can help with most printer issues. If the same continues after those steps, since this began after a macOS upgrade a corresponding driver may be needed. You can check for drivers from Canon.

Take care.

I think the update to Big Sur has caused this problem. I too am experiencing issues with my Canon Pixma E410 (non-airplay) printer, as it has stopped scanning since the update, although it will still print. I suspect Canon need to do some tinkering with their printer drivers as the most recent update was prior to Big Sur release, but this will take a while. For exactly such reasons I was once very slow to update to new system software, as this allowed far more knowledgable people than I to "field test" and (hopefully) resolve such issues. I think I made a mistake this time by updating a little too early, goaded on by concerns about "security" (although I shouldn't really worry, unless someone wants to steal photos of my dogs and kids - or maybe my collection of ukulele play-along lessons).

I'm facing the very same problem, and it's incredibly frustrating. To answer the previous question re: the model, I'm referring to the Canon MP610 Pixma printer. It was working -- and then it suddenly stopped with this latest update. I've followed all of Mac's suggested steps, but nothing works. It's such a mess. Surely Apple should fix this problem. It's really the least the could do.
