This app macVPN has appeared on my MacBook Pro

This App macVPN has appeared on my computer, I've not downloaded (my wife may have) but could anyone shed light on it? Is it worth keeping?

Ive tried to delete it but it not just a case of long hold and delete, could someone give me a step by step dummies guide on how to delete it?

thanks in advance

Dave

I don't want a VPN and I don't know how it got onto the computer.
Its a "APP" but I can't find how to delete it, the instruction you gave me are for an actual VPN but this seems to be an app you open

Understood.

Well I certainly have no idea how it got on your Mac—

what is the issue with deleting it...

If you do not want the app then don't open it and delete it.

You give no corroborating information—exact app name, app icon, link or screen shot...

I have nothing to drill down on here.

If you still have an issue contact the developer,

see if this is it:

If you suspect you have installed malware/adware—

>System Preferences>Profiles click into it and then remove all the suspicious things from the list. (This Preference pane will not be present if no profiles found.)

also Verify you are not using SOCKS proxy:

>System Preferences>Networks>Advanced>Proxy   uncheck the box

Adware/malware launch daemons can set SOCKS proxies without user participation.

(SOCKS is an Internet protocol that exchanges network packets between a client and server through a proxy server.)

I see no entry from the app store "macVPN"

generally—

A true VPN tunnel, for example between you and your job, or a Bank server would be of value, otherwise might be time to re-think the usage.

Already suggested by previous person but adding two cents

Suggest downloading from a Trusted Developer and Respected ASC Contributor the application Malwarebytes for Mac. It is free or paid for added features. Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware. Once done, restart computer and test.

There are no known Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS. There are Malware and Adware that does affect macOS and are often times downloaded as part of an Application from Third Party UnTrusted Site and get installed along with the Application.
