Inconsistent Hard Disk storage availability

On my iMac the System information reports that my 1Tb hard drive has 389.5 GB of space available but the System Report says only 37.2 GB are available. I am trying to copy a 104 GB file from an external drive but the operation fails every time with the message that there is not enough space available.

5 TB External hard drive says “not enough space” but it’s empty. I have a 4TB Seagate hard drive that I was using with a Windows PC. I had about 800GB of data on it. I tried to back up some files from my MacBook to it but drive said “Not enough space” Reformatted it (erased in disc utility using Mac journal extended) still getting “Not enough space” error. My 2022macbook hard drive shows to be nearly full with ghost files?. Everytime I try moving anything to external drives I get message that the disk is full and the tASK CAN’T BE COMPLETED. In the disk utility the hard drive shows it is almost full with Idrive. But when I disconnected idrive it now shows that it has 496 GB (out of 500 available or so) of documents. I can’t move anything and really don’t think I have that much in documents…

System Data Files Huge and Keep Growing I have read many of the posts about this problem but none of the recommended solutions seem to have worked. I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019), 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 with a 3 TB fusion drive. There is a 1 TB Windows partition and a 2 TB macOS partition running Monterey version 12.3.1. Lately I have noticed the System Data has gotten huge and is growing larger every day so that I am rapidly running out of free space. Yesterday, to try to free up more space, I deleted about 500 GB of games and other applications. Instead of recovering free space, the System Data immediately grew from 967 GB to 1.5 TB. I do not use Time Machine for backups and have checked for old snapshots using Terminal; there were none. I have tried starting in safe mode and used the latest version of Onyx to address any system file problems. There were none. I soon will have no free space and at a complete loss as to how to resolve this issue. Can anyone help?
