why does airplay block mirror of ipad screen and format error message appears?

How do you prevent "Format not supported" error in Airplay? Seems like guessing game on what Airplay will or will not stream/mirror through Airplay. Something changed with Apple, why are certain formats blocked in iOS, but seem to work with macOS. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot streaming errors related to "Format"?

Speaking of “guessing game” …

You have asked us to guess, among other things:

  • The formats you find blocked
  • The formats you find that work
  • Exactly what changed
    • What used to work
    • Under what iPadOS version
    • Under what MacOS version
  • What model iPad
  • What model and year Mac
  • What iPadOS version
  • What MacOS version

I expect Apple products to work seamlessly with other Apple products. Confidence with Apple is slipping. For example using Dell laptop with Microsoft display adapter … it just plain works, I do not have to worry about formats, or what is supported or not supported. Apple used to be the “it just works” company. Too bad that had to change. I will keep trying, thanks for the help, but Apple missed the boat on seamless Mirror/streaming from a device to a tv. Will seek other solutions. Thanks for your help.
