I Can’t use US sim in Germany bought iPhone

I purchased a 12 pro in Germany with Telekom as my carrier . I’m in the US for about a month before I move to another overseas assignment and to my dismay, I can not use a prepaid SIM (tried Verizon and T-Mobile) Most companies are saying the phone is not compatible. Is my iphone now useless?

Is your iPhone 12 Locked to Telekom? Do you know? If this is the case then the iPhone 12 will not work with other carriers in the US or anywhere else. I recommend that you contact Telekom and see whether they would allow you to use the iPhone with other international carriers.

When Apple releases new devices, there are multiple models of each. Within those models, there are subtle differences.

Different carriers do work on different frequencies, and giving a generalization, we will go with GSM and CDMA/GSM. When a GSM only device is unlocked, it can only be moved to other GSM networks. When a CDMA/GSM phone is unlocked, it can be taken to most any other carrier. So it is entirely possible you had a GSM only device and you are attempting to move into a CDMA network (Verizon).
