Where to Go From Here:
A. Ever Contact Apple Support?:
Have you ever contacted Apple Support on this? If not, I would say it would be wise to do so.
B. Covered Under Warranty?:
Note that you have a one-year, out-of-the-box limited warranty with this. However, being now more than 1 year old, that is not longer an option, unless you have AppleCare coverage for this. If found to be a faulty device, then fixing it may end up being of no charge, if you have coverage.
C. Contact Apple Support:
Ask the Apple Rep to perform a screensharing session of this. This will allow the Apple Rep to see this from your perspective. Show them exactly what is occurring here. They’ll see what this is occurring and may run you right through the fix. Apple Support Contact Info:
Note: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due do lots of calls. And that makes sense, because with the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)
Unfortunately, iPad screens are not meant to be "tapped by a coffee mug" and, unless you have Applecare +, such damage is not covered by your regular mfr's warranty. You did not mention if yours is still covered by a warranty. But, you do want to contact Apple support to see what can be done; Apple usually does not replace screens, but may offer you a special price on a replacement device.
First off,
May I ask why you were tapping your iPad’s thin glass screen with coffee mug?
AND was such a coffee mug filled with some liquid that was HOT?
If this is an old iPad or is an iPad that has no paid, extended, two-year AppleCare+ warranty on it, then such damage is NOT covered and you will have to pay for a fairly expensive device replacement.
Apple and Apple Stores, usually, do not repair iPads, but ONLY supply in/out of warranty replacement devices.
If this iPad is too old, ( like 7-10 years old ) Apple may not be able to do ANYTHING for you.
Such old iPad models are too old, now.
In that scenario, time for another new, refurbished or second hand, used iPad model.
You may end up purchasing another iPad, in the end, anyways.
Sorry & Good Luck to You!
