Listening to Podcasts at higher speed on Mac

When I play podcasts at a higher speed (double) the sound quality drops and sounds echo-y. Any ideas how to help? This only happens when listening on the macOS application and not iPhone.

Podcasts App audio speed About a week ago now the audio speed is increased like double time. I first thought it was something with my car Bluetooth hook up, but even when disconnected from my car it still has the issue. Any advice?
