As the middle name is optional, it isn't shown at all times when viewing account information. If you'd like your middle name to be shown when using your Apple ID to communicate or collaborate with others, we can recommend adding the middle name to the First Name field. You can simply type your first name, then a space, then your middle name, and leave the Middle Name field empty.

Thanks for the response but then that field is basically unused. Shame to leave useless information in our record. Also, because our info is used for credit cards, etc, if we put an additional name in there, the banks might reject the info. Anyway, no big, thank you.
