Mid 2012 is not supported. Therefore you can not run the lastest macOS.

Your MBP is current and at the end of the line with macOS 10.15.7

A LOT of stuff changes for Big Sur, and readers are still posting their tales of woe about how Installing Big Sur obsoleted their favorite stuff.

Apple has left some Macs behind because their Hardware, especially graphics, just can't keep up with the demands of Big Sur.
