Tiktok "shadow" app undeletable on iPhone 12

Friend sent a Tiktok to me. Normally it opens in Safari as I never downloaded the app. This time, it opened in what appeared to be the Tiktok app. Definitely not in safari, and when I entered multitasking I saw it was completely separate from the Messages app. I pulled down my search bar and found no trace of Tiktok. I entered the app library and when I scrolled to "T", there was no Tiktok either. However, when I search for it in the app library, it inexplicably appears. Unlike the rest of the apps listed in the library which actually belong on my phone, when I dragged Tiktok onto my homepage it simply vanishes, leaving me unable to delete it. I cannot find any way to delete an app directly from the app library. Any help is appreciated, mad that Tiktok found its way onto my phone and madder than **** there isn't a way for me to get rid of it. Can't even understand how an app that my software claims isn't on my phone can show up in multitasking.

Edit: I can find the app in the app library after "z" and "#" there is an nondescript box category that this version of the tiktok app appears in. Still cannot rid myself of it.

I’m having this same problem, but it isn’t giving me an option to delete it. I restarted my phone and tried deleting the ghost app in my library. Any other solutions?

Hello gdoye,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you have an app in your App Library that you cannot remove. We’d like to help.

First, we would suggest restarting your iPhone. Once you restart, open the App Library and search for the app. If it is gone then it was likely deleted despite the icon still appearing but the restart would resolve this.

If you still see the app in your App Library, follow the steps under “Delete an app from the App Library” in Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone.

Have a nice day.
