Check iCloud, Directly:

Log into iCloud sites, and see if certain synced items reside in there. For instance, go here for photos: https://www.icloud.com/photos

No, but if you have iCloud ON for messages, calendars, contacts, reminders, notes, etc then you can they will get sync over to the new iPhone when you signed in with the same Apple ID.
