Mac OS Big Sur 11.5.1, Scan interface cannot connect to Epson ET2720

There are multiple threads about this. The solution:

In the Finder, press command-shift-G and paste

/Library/Image Capture/Devices

double-click the EPSON ES018F application to launch it.

Afterwards, scanning should work. It has for many users.

I don't know exactly, but since launching the application manually makes it work, I am guessing that some sort of glitch with Gatekeeper may have been the cause.
