Apple Music and "Local" Files

Does Apple Music alter any of the music files in one's own library? In its earliest versions, Apple Music would survey one's library, and where it found a "match" between a song in the library and a song in Apple Music, it would substitute the Apple Music song. This was particularly annoying to me because I organize artist by "last name, first name," unlike Apple Music.

Thanks, in advance.

In principle enabling iCloud Music Library as part of Apple Music or iTunes Match should not affect any of your locally stored content. The files themselves are not replaced, though occasionally metadata for store purchases can be reset to the original data from the store. You can hide purchases from your purchase history to prevent this. Matching isn't always perfect so the matched copy in the cloud that you download or stream to other devices and libraries can sometimes be slightly different, e.g. clean vs. explicit, but your originals are unchanged. You should make a complete offline backup of your library and media files before you start using Apple Music.
